We are excited to be part of the Youth Suicide Prevention and Response Network (YSPRN), newly launched project funded by California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Injury and Violence Prevention Branch (IVPB). This innovative program will fund ten (10) pilot county initiatives with the goals of establishing, improving, and expanding local efforts to report and respond to youth suicides and suicide attempts, and enhancing implementation of crisis response services.

Who we are

CARS is a California-based nonprofit dedicated to enriching the behavioral and public health field by promoting evidence-based practice and workforce development. Teams provide training, consultation, and coaching to individuals, organizations, and agencies to foster safe, healthy, and engaged persons and communities. Through national, state, and local projects, CARS brings a diverse and multi-disciplinary team to create varied and ongoing opportunities for peer learning and knowledge transfer through dynamic learning and practice communities among funding recipients, collaborators, and leaders and practitioners in similar roles.

YSM combines social marketing and TA expertise to equip county and community agencies with the tools they need to help their communities engage in effective suicide prevention efforts. YSM’s approach when developing a TA plan is to take a 360-degree view of a public health problem to identify barriers and facilitators for the desired behavior change and then to design a “solution strategy” that combines individual, community and systems-level approaches.
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) works to protect the public’s health in the Golden State and helps shape positive health outcomes for individuals, families and communities. The Department’s programs and services, implemented in collaboration with local health departments and state, federal and private partners, touch the lives of every Californian and visitor to the state 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Injury and Violence Prevention Branch (IVPB)
The Injury and Violence Prevention Branch (IVPB) is the focal point for the California Department of Public Health’s injury prevention efforts, both epidemiological investigations and implementation of prevention programs to reduce intentional and unintentional injuries. Prevention efforts include epidemiological surveillance, planning and consensus building, interventions, policy development, professional education and training, and public information.
